On Wednesday, November 23, 2022, in Sarajevo, the Amputee Organization UDAS, in cooperation with the Bosnia and Herzegovina Mine Action Center, organized the round table “Bosnia and Herzegovina without mines, barriers and victims – achievements and challenges”. The event was attended by representatives of several embassies, entity and state ministries, the Demining Commission, entity civil protection, funds for professional rehabilitation and employment of persons with disabilities, and organizations and associations of mine survivors.
The background of the meeting is the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the adoption and signing of the Convention to Ban Landmines and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL), as a global coalition of civil society organizations in over 100 countries. The meeting is being held in parallel with the regular 20th Meeting of Member States of the Convention on the Prohibition of Anti-Personnel Mines in Geneva.
At the meeting, participants discussed the achievements in eliminating the impact of mines in BiH, as well as the remaining obligations from the Convention on the Prohibition of Anti-Personnel Landmines related to the clearance of mined territories and ensuring support for mine victims in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The meeting was also an opportunity to present the new edition of the Landmine Monitor, i.e. the main findings of the current implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of Anti-Personnel Mines at the global level, standard IMAS 13.10, which concerns assistance to mine victims in mine action activities.
Gratitude was expressed to all who participated and contributed to this mini-summit in Sarajevo, successfully addressing issues of essential importance for BiH's progress in meeting the remaining challenges from the Convention on the Ban on Anti-Personnel Mines.
